NUS d’Hoppers was founded in 2005 and established by Ling Huey and Zee in 2006 to provide an accessible platform for NUS students to learn the basics and history of hip hop dance. Shortly after, in 2009, the club created its own crew known as d’Hoppers Dance Crew (DDC), led by resident instructor Vernon Huang from Converge Studios and our dance captains.

Our motto “Strength from Unity” represents how we are better together as a team! DDC aims to cultivate a safe space for our crew members to grow both individually and as a team by providing our members with opportunities to learn from various instructors, take part in performances, competitions, and battles. Regular crew training on basics, choreography, and freestyle lay the foundation for our members to flourish in the local hip hop scene and nurture a sense of community.

Recent key events include our 2023 Hip-Hop External Battle, 2022 biennial production Ascen(dance!), as well as 2022 d’Battleground Vol.3.

Vernon Huang

Resident Choreographer

Under the guidance of Studio Wu Pte Ltd, Vernon has since taught numerous schools from Primary to Tertiary level, as well as outside open classes and corporate for over 10 plus years. He has also choreographed and performed for many shows including Mediacorp, Product launches, DnD shows etc. Well-versed in a number of dance styles including Hip Hop, Street Jazz, Contemporary dance etc, he is also the current resident choreographer for 2 Primary schools and 1 Tertiary dance CCAs.

 

In early 2016, together with other colleagues, Vernon co-founded Converge Studios LLP, a stronghold of 50 plus current teaching faculty members with different genres, catering to many who wish to dance. Vernon is also fortunate to receive a few testimonials from schools, as well as shows/corporate clients.
