Founded in December 2009, Viva LatiNUS is a prominent Latin dance team representing the National University of Singapore. Specialising in the five vibrant Latin styles of Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, Jive, and Paso Doble, Viva LatiNUS is a dynamic ensemble that showcases the electrifying essence of Latin dance.

 

Viva LatiNUS holds a strong sense of camaraderie and a deep commitment to nurturing a family-like bond among its members. They firmly believe that the joy of dance knows no age limits, encouraging individuals from all walks of life to embark on an exhilarating dancing journey. Their motto, “Train like an Athlete, Perform like an Artist,” serves as a testament to their unwavering dedication to inspiring both their members and audiences alike, captivating them with the enchanting and passionate art of Latin dance.

 

In recent years, Viva LatiNUS has achieved remarkable milestones. They have been recognized for their exceptional performances at prestigious events such as the Student Life Fair and Supernova AY22/23, The Dance Academy Dancesport Championship 2022, and CAC+US Arts Production 2023.

Germaine Gan

Key Tutor

Germaine began her Latin dance training under Jonathan and Peggie Dance Studio from the age of 8. She continued to receive her pre-tertiary education under scholarship in School of the Arts, Singapore (SOTA), where she was trained in both contemporary and ballet, and graduated with an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

 

Throughout the years, she has been dancing competitively and has clinched over 100 finalist positions and multiple wins in both local and international competitions, in both solo and partner categories. This includes multiple finalist rankings at the WDO World Championships in 2022 in Naples, Italy.

 

In the performance scene, as an alumni of the National University of Singapore (NUS) latin performance team, Viva LatiNUS, she has coached, mentored and actively choreographed for the team, and performed for showdance performances such as CAC+US (2015 – 2016), Viva Gold 2015 – Noches De Caribe (2015), VVP2019: Quarterl/fe (2019) and 3rd/ 4th Garden City Open Dance Championships (2018-2019).

She currently conducts classes and coaching sessions for youths and adults at The Moving Artistry as well as VivaLatiNUS.

Throughout her dance journey, she has been exposed to many genres of dance, ranging from Latin Dance, Ballet,
Contemporary dance, Chinese Dance, Jazz, Flamenco, Pole and Yoga.

She hopes to inspire others through her passion for dance and aims to push her students to get out of their comfort zone and strive to be the best that they can be.
