NUS Angklung Ensemble (NUSAE)

Established in 2007, NUS Angklung Ensemble (NUSAE) is Singapore’s first Angklung club at collegiate level. Angklung is a traditional idiophone instrument from Indonesia, made of several bamboo tubes attached to frames, and is regarded as one of UNESCO’s Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible heritage of Humanity. As one angklung only produces a particular note, each member of the ensemble holds multiple angklungs, making collaboration and cooperation the linchpin of every superb and harmonious performance that NUSAE puts out. Its uniqueness and beginner-friendly nature have also attracted students of diverse backgrounds to join.

NUS Angklung Ensemble aims to inspire others and make a fusion between traditional and modern music through embracing diverse experiences and backgrounds as well as developing Angklung individuals holistically. As a pioneering Angklung club at the university level in Singapore, its focus is on nurturing discipline, confidence, teamwork, and rigour among its members, while fostering their passion for artistic expression as well as welcoming and empowering everyone to thrive within the group.

Recent performances include “Gema Nusantara” and “Maroon 5 Medley” in CAC+US 2023: Finale, The Last Stage as well as a performance in Chingay Parade 2023.
