NUS Chinese Drama

Founded in 2003, NUS Chinese Drama strives to create performances that resonate with human emotions and experiences as well as provoke critical thinking through performances that reflect the reality of people’s lives.

The vision is to ignite the passion for theatre amongst members, empowering them to be creative, adaptable and socially responsible. The mission is to uphold the values of authenticity, compassion and beauty to present quality performances with a professional attitude.

NUS Chinese Drama’s members will be exposed to Chinese Theatre backstage skills including props-making, costumes and make-up design, stage set and script writing to develop their ability in conducting independent performances. Through curating performances that reflect the reality of people’s lives, such as young adults and the elderly, NUS Chinese Drama wish to resonate with the audiences and encourage them to be confident and have a positive mindset in life.

Judy Ngo Mui Leok

Principal Tutor

Judy Ngo is the principal tutor of NUS Chinese Drama. She is also the Artistic Director of 1N THE ACT which focuses on education through drama. She started teaching in 2000 and often works with schools as a CCA instructor, drama instructor and Artist-In-School. She has over 25 years of experience in acting, teaching and directing theatre and has worked with many theatre companies in Singapore including The Theatre Practice, W!ld Rice, The Necessary Stage and Drama Box.

 

Judy believes in constant training and has attended courses conducted by masters such as David Diamond, Philippe Gaulier, Anne Bogart, Keith Johnstone and Danny Yung. Judy firmly believes that theatre should be about life and that life should be lived.
