The Paul Abisheganaden Grant for Artistic Excellence in 2018 has been presented to violinist, Gabriel Lee.

Noted for the extraordinary diversity in his output, Gabriel has performed with numerous symphony and chamber orchestras, yet he is perhaps best known for his performances as a founding member of the Lorong Boys musical group.

The Paul Abisheganaden Grant for Artistic Excellence is offered each year by NUS Centre For the Arts (CFA). It provides funding of up to $10,000 for young NUS artists and performers to seek further training and experience in the development of their craft.

“Each year we’re impressed with the quality of applications we receive,” said CFA’s Director, Sharon Tan. “Gabriel has already built a reputation for quality through his violin performances with orchestras in Singapore, China and the USA. However, it is his drive to extend his musical palette that sets him apart.”

Gabriel will use the grant funding to attend the 16th Annual Creative Strings Workshop and Festival, run by one of the world’s foremost jazz violinists, Christian Howes, in the USA.

“I am thrilled and humbled to be the recipient of this prestigious grant,” said Gabriel. “It is such an honor to be associated with one of Singapore’s most important musical pioneers.”

“A career in the arts is a lifelong journey. I am so glad that NUS CFA continues to help graduates like me continue along our creative path.”

Applications for the 2024 grant are now open and will close on 31 Dec 2023. Find out more here.
