Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by KEVII Hallplay Production

KEVII Hallplay has a long and rich history of staging quality plays touching on relevant social issues.

We are a student-led, semi-professional theatre group with heart and consist of both amateurs and experienced stage actors. Our annual English drama production showcases the talents of our Hall residents, cultivates interest among residents in theatrical productions and contributes in a meaningful way to the local theatre arts scene.

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is a Singaporean local play written by award-winning playwright Chong Tze Chien about three dysfunctional families living in the same HDB block. The members of the three families each face their own demons and struggles, putting them in a difficult situation where they have to choose between two unpleasant choices.

The play explores relatable themes such as aging, filial piety, single-parent family units, dealing with the consequences of past mistakes and familial love above all.

We aim to encourage children and grandchildren to be filial to their parents and grandparents, highlight the struggles of single parents and show support for children growing up in non-traditional family units. We also hope to bring awareness to children who may face sexual inappropriateness at home.

We hope that at the end of the thought-provoking production, every audience member will realise and understand that every individual is battling with their inner demons and struggles and remember that at the end of it all, they have love and support from their loved ones.
