Halls of NUS (HONUS) presents the Combined Hall Ensemble Concert (CHEC) 2022: Around the World, a 2 part concert showcasing the versatility and dynamism of a fusion of Oriental and Western instruments. Through a specially curated repertoire, of which many pieces are original arrangements, Around the World aims to recreate the ambience and atmosphere from countries around the world, which have been severely missed during this pandemic situation.

Start off your journey with EHnsemble, KEnsemble, enSHemble and KR Ensemble as they bring you to Brazil, Korea, America and Spain as part of the first show. Continue to be dazzled in the second show by following RHebels to China, France and Japan with their catchy tunes.

CHEC encapsulates the idea of dynamism and versatility by showing how Western and Oriental instruments can be adapted to unconventional performance settings and how these instruments are limited by the traditional genre of repertoire that they are usually classified with. This is an event for everyone for all ages, especially those who have missed travelling overseas. It will also pander to those constantly on the lookout for innovative breakthroughs and fusion in the world of music.

Performed by:

Raffles Hall: RHebels is an ensemble where east meets west, where Chinese instruments come together with western instruments to create a unique and entrancing sound. Our musicians are all passionate, and we have worked very hard since last semester to bring you pieces that are arranged by our very own members. We hope to create fantastic music that everyone can enjoy!

Eusoff Hall: EHnsemble is a platform for music enthusiasts to experiment with different genres of music together. Aside from arranging our own pieces, we enjoy infusing creative improvisation into contemporary rhythms to add to the uniqueness of our performance. It is a place where members can truly relax and unwind to music after a long day.

Kent Ridge Hall: KR Ensemble is a platform for budding and passionate musicians to share their appreciation of music. We write and record music of all genre, as well as perform for audiences both in and out of hall. We believe that cultivating a positive and open-minded environment for all our members will help them to grow to realise their full musical potential.

King Edward VII Hall: KEnsemble houses a bunch of aspiring linglings practising 40 hours each day. As a bunch of passionate musicians, we transcribe and arrange pieces that we enjoy listening to. It is a comfortable space for members to freely explore different genres of music and find like-minded friends with similar appreciation of music.

Sheares Hall: enSHemble is a place where instrumentalists can journey together to achieve higher standards with their instruments, and have a more intimate and practical relationship with music. Aside from all the seriousness, it is also an environment where fun, enjoyability, and security comes first before anything else.
