EMCC | ReDiscovery by Dicapella Dizi Ensemble

ReDiscovery is a first-of-its-kind concert-film produced locally. The film seeks to showcase the versatility of music with the Dizi performing different genres of music such as Jazz, Spanish, Pop, and Modern. Together with renowned local musicians the Lorong Boys, Mingwei and Juni from MICappella, Bennett Bay, and boasting entirely new repertoire by young local composers Sulwyn Lok, Rebecca Tan, Sherman Lee, Vincent Tan, Edmund Song, our very own musicians from Dicapella will bring you on a musical day-trip across Singapore to rediscover the harmonious and collaborative nature of music.

The film stars a disheartened Dizi student Jasper, who like many others is bored of always practicing traditional Chinese music while others dote on other genres of music. Seeing this, a mysterious teacher Tom appears, offering to bring Jasper on a trip across Singapore to meet some of his musical friends. After a day of showing Jasper how the Dizi can also perform other genres of music, we see Jasper rediscover his passion for the instrument, determined to improve his Dizi playing in order to expand his musical abilities.

With ReDiscovery, Dicapella hopes to inspire our fellow musical enthusiasts to rediscover their passion for music and explore their musical possibilities.

The Lorong Boys are genre-defying musicians on a mission: to toe the line between madness and madcap brilliance at every performance. With incredible versatility, technique, and love for the unbound improvisation, no genre is out of reach, no territory out of bounds. The Lorong Boys are proud alumni of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, and the conservatory’s Ensemble-in-Residence.
