NUS Museum

Make Art Make Sense is a series of 3 participatory workshops using hands-on activities to expand how we think and talk about art. Engaging with objects from the NUS Museum’s diverse collections, the workshops explore the three topics of ceramics, painting, and text through a curious, fearless, and “do-it-yourself” ethos.

With guidance from emerging arts practitioners and professionals, participants will gain practical art experience—from making their own mini pots to learning painting techniques—that can further inform their understanding of art in academic and other contexts. Activities and conversations with other art enthusiasts will help participants build their vocabulary, ponder the relationship between art and words, and develop skills in speaking confidently and thoughtfully about art.

Sign up for individual workshops at $5 each, or all three at $12 in total.

How do potters make pots?

In our first workshop Making Sense of Ceramics, we explore NUS Museum’s ceramics collections and gain hands-on experience working with clay. Guided by NUS Museum Young Museum Professional Trainee and ceramics practitioner Sam Rin, participants will learn the unique vocabulary of pottery, be introduced to handbuilding techniques, and make their own miniature pots to take home.
