Join NUS Baba House Honorary Curator Peter Lee and Programmes Manager Clara Ang as they discuss what the objects in the Straits Chinese Collections displayed at the NUS Baba House can tell us about domesticity and subjectivities.
Setting the stage for the short films that will be shown at the NUS Baba House as part of NUS Museum’s Worlding Through Cinema film programme, this talk will highlight the various transactions between the lives of objects and people, evoking further reflections pertaining to the social constitutions of objects before, beyond, and within the context of the Museum. With reference to specific objects within the Baba House, the talk aims to raise various questions: What is the value of thinking through the shifts in uses and meanings of the objects currently displayed at the Baba House? What are the curatorial practices activated in order to create the varying processes of interpretations of a dynamic Straits Chinese home?
